The facts

There are over 38 million people living with HIV and AIDS worldwide, half are women.
Over 2.1 million children are living with HIV and AIDS, 90% of them resulting from mother-to-child transmission.
In 2007, about 420,000 children were infected with HIV.
Less than 10% of HIV children are receiving drug treatment.
Only 9% of HIV pregnant women received treatment to prevent transmission to child.
Since AIDS was first identified over 20 years ago, more than 20 million people have died.
There are more than 15 million children who have lost one or both parents to AIDS.
In some of the worst affected countries in sub-Saharan Africa rates of HIV infection are as high as one in three.
Cambodia has the highest rate of HIV in Asia.
